Why can’t we push the throttle forward when starting the diesel engine of loader or forklift?
After starting the diesel engineof loader or forklift, you should let it run for 3-5min. at a low speed for purposes as follows:

1). Warm up the engine: get all parts of the engine block heated at a slow and even pace, so as to reach the normal working temperature, reducing wearand avoid mechanical damage;

2). Ensure sufficient lubrication: When the diesel engine is started, the lubricating oil is of high viscosity, and all parts are in poor lubrication. After the warm-up, the lubricating oil will gradually reach all the targeted parts, avoiding dry friction and damage to the mating surface;

3). When the diesel engine is started, the loader or forklift’s temperature is low, and diesel combustion is insufficient. At this time, if pushing the throttle forward to increase the fuel supply, surplus unburned diesel oil will produce the carbon deposit, resulting in intensified emissionin the diesel engine. In addition, surplus diesel oil may flow into the crankcase along the cylinder wall, and accordingly affect the cylinder wall lubrication. Meanwhile, the diesel oil will dilute the engine oil in the oil sump, resulting in reduction of both lubricating performance and diesel engine’s service life.

Warm-up operation is especially important to the diesel engine equipped with a turbocharger. If you push the throttle forward immediately after the startup, the turbocharger’s rotating speed will rise, while the engine oil fails to reach the targeted partsin good time, which may result in poor lubrication, with the turbine shaft stuck to cause failure.
