Caterpillar demonstrates the feasibility of using hydrogen fuel cell technology as a backup power source in Microsoft data centers

Recently,Caterpillar Inc. announces successful partnership with Microsoft and Ballard Power Systems,Demonstrated that the use of large hydrogen fuel cells for data centers provides reliable、Feasibility of a sustainable backup power supply。The demonstration project provides valuable insight into how fuel cell systems can power multi-megawatt data centers,Make sure 99 is met.999% Continuous run time requirement for,Ensure uninterrupted power supply。

The demonstration project was conducted in a challenging environment,The hydrogen fuel cell power system was verified at an altitude of 6,086 feet(1,855 m)And performance below freezing point。The project simulated 48 hours of backup power at a Microsoft data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.,In which a hydrogen fuel cell is integrate into a data center pow plant to support its critical load。Cat®(Carter)The microgrid controller is used to control two Cat® Power Grid Stabilization(PGS)1260 Battery Energy Storage System and 1.5 MW Hydrogen fuel cell。
