Volvo Construction Equipment Appoints New Head of Technology

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has announced that its new head of Technology is to be Thomas Bitter.

As Senior Vice President, Technology, Bitter will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of Volvo CE’s global technology strategy. He will report to company President Melker Jernberg and be a member of the company’s Executive Management Team. 

“This is an exciting time to be leading the Technology function,” comments Bitter. “With electromobility, connectivity and automation key to the future success of our company, I’m energized to help my new colleagues deliver customer satisfaction through leadership in innovation and quality, both today and in the future.”

Commenting on the appointment, Volvo CE President Melker Jernberg said: “I am delighted to welcome Thomas to this new role. With his deep product knowledge, cross-functional experience and genuine passion for customers, innovation and sustainability, I know that he will make a strong contribution to advancing Volvo CE’s technological competences at this important time of change in the industry.”

MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Bitter has been Senior Vice President of Volvo CE’s Marketing and Product Portfolio function since 2015. Prior to this, he was Vice President Global Marketing and before that held a number of customer-facing roles, based in Asia. Before joining Volvo CE, Thomas was responsible for Product Strategy at Mack Trucks, based in the US, and Product Manager at Renault Trucks, based in France.

A German national, Thomas holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Lyon Graduate School of Business. Married with two children, Thomas is fluent in German, French and English. He enjoys running, telemark skiing, European history, furniture design and classic cars. Thomas will be based in Sweden at the company’s HQ in Gothenburg.
